Early Life and Education
Although born in Martinique and primarily resided in Guadeloupe, Serge L’Homme comes from a family deeply rooted in Dominica’s culture and traditions. The youngest of nine siblings, he was the only one not born in Dominica. His father, Coxon L’Homme, who hailed from Castle Bruce and had roots from Kalinago Territory, sold woven baskets in the Martinique market — he was a trader, huckster, and businessman. His mother, Antoinette Adin, also known as Ma L’Homme, was of East Indian descent, born in Martinique, and worked as a huckster in Guadeloupe. She frequently traveled to Dominica to source and sell produce. Eventually, his mother became more sedentary in Guadeloupe where she started selling spices and different esoteric products. Therefore, Mr. L’Homme’s journey began in his childhood, when his mother introduced him to the world of spices. These early experiences cultivated in him a profound appreciation for spices, which later led to substantial investments and diversity in the field. Mr. L’Homme’s academic journey took him abroad for 5 years, to France, Europe, where he predominantly traveled and explored his interest in Human Psychology. At 16, Mr. L’Homme was brought to Germany where he stayed for 6 months; he learned the German language and eventually joined the French Army.

Career
Serge L’Homme returned to St. Maarten, where he spent 16 years working as both a huckster and a truck operator. During this time, his mother reintroduced him to spices, teaching him to master nine distinct varieties. Mr. L’Homme then began selling spices at the local market in St. Maarten. His growing passion and knowledge for spices earned him the reputation of the “Spice Man”. Despite this, Serge felt a strong pullback to Dominica. He saw the potential for economic growth on the island and was determined to apply his knowledge and skills to contribute to its development. In 2003, he returned to Dominica and established L’Homme Business Heritage Group.
