LBHG Assistance to the Students of Atkinson Primary School after the Passage of Hurricane Maria
Community Engagement
At L’homme Business Heritage Group (LBHG) Inc., we believe that enterprise and community are inseparable. Our commitment to business growth is matched by a responsibility to contribute positively to the communities in which we operate. Through targeted outreach initiatives, the Group seeks to support local development while fostering meaningful and lasting relationships with the people we serve.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in 2017, LBHG directed its outreach efforts toward the students of Atkinson Primary School, whose facilities had been severely damaged by the storm. During the recovery period, the students temporarily attended classes at Salybia Primary School. LBHG supported these students by providing clothing, school supplies, and other essential items to assist them in continuing their education during a challenging time.
The long-term impact of these efforts has been particularly meaningful. One of the students who benefited from this outreach initiative is now part of the LBHG team, working at Kali Midway Kafe within the Group’s Concord expansion area — a reminder of how community support, opportunity, and perseverance can come full circle.
While the Group acknowledges that its community outreach activities have not been as extensive in recent years as it aspires them to be, there remains a firm commitment to strengthening this aspect of its mission. Founder Serge L’homme has consistently emphasized that the responsible use of Dominica’s natural resources should generate value not only for enterprise, but for the wider society.
Looking ahead, the Group intends to expand its community engagement efforts not only through the L’homme Family Farms initiative, but also through the broader Concord development zone where several of its operations are being established. This expansion area integrates agriculture, hospitality, and future manufacturing activities in a way that allows enterprise growth to directly benefit surrounding communities. For example, Kali Midway Kafe, located within this corridor, is expected to continue to create employment opportunities for residents of nearby communities, including individuals from the Kalinago Territory.
Beyond job creation, the Group intends to support training and self-development initiatives designed to strengthen skills, foster entrepreneurship, and encourage personal growth among employees and community members. Through these combined efforts — spanning agriculture, hospitality, and workforce development — LBHG seeks to contribute meaningfully to local economic empowerment while reinforcing its commitment to responsible and inclusive development.
More broadly, the Concord expansion reflects the Group’s long-term vision of developing a community-centered economic corridor, where business growth, cultural identity, environmental stewardship, and community opportunity evolve together in a mutually reinforcing ecosystem. Through this approach, LBHG aspires to demonstrate how locally rooted enterprises can serve as catalysts for sustainable development and shared prosperity in Dominica.
